Hmm...I (Ash) have no concept of time...some things never change.

Sunday. Today is Sunday, not Saturday. I've just made that discovery, courtesy my cell phone screen. If you read my blog beneath this, you'll see what I'm referring to. I thought about editing the blog, changing "it's Saturday" to "Sunday," but that just wouldn't be right....I like the idea that it's real and unedited.

Oddly reassuring; there ARE contstants in life. I can relax in knowing that I am still a moron.

Why I chose Blogger.......and a Leonard Nimoy reference.

Hey E-liza, glad you joined us.........I thought about fostering online Athens communication through Friendster, actually, but decided that blogger was the most applicable to how we're all interacting with the Web as a means to staying in touch with eachother as a group.

First, let me preface this silly explanation of mine: As sarcasm translates poorly online, I'm not sure if you were entirely joking, and I now am about to make a jackass of myself.....but just in case, and cause others may be at least curious, I'll explain why I chose blogger over similar services. And if nothing else, I make a Leonard Nimoy reference in the last paragraph.

With Friendster, which asserts itself as "the new way to meet people," networking is the focus, with linear links to insular "profiles," rather than an open forum for the exchange of comminication as a group, much like one would do in a room of friends. Basically, Friendster is structured as a network of linear pathways, whereas blogger provides a single, constant flow of communication among a group, and unlike other services, is easliy archived for us all to make fun of later in life. For all you visual learners out there: I picture the difference between the two systems as blogger expanding the flow of thoughts out to the periphery, as a solid smooth surface, rather than a straight line, which is then redirected and shot to the left. And no, I'm not on crack.

The idea of networking places expansion of human resources (i.e. "profiles" of people) are the focus. You connect to someone's profile, and from there, can access the profile of every "friendster" they have networked with. With blogger, the focus is the exchange of ideas, not the exchange of people/resumes. The user-friendly posting approach on blogger mimic conversation, without the messy complexity of a web-ring or linked network. Also, with blogger, you can tailor settings and the html itself, essentially altering every aspect of the structure and function of the page, as well as having invited "members" and making the blog "public" or "private."

How we were using email to essentially replace "hanging out," and now using blogger in much the same casual, open-forum conversational way, the idea is to keep the group small, representing the people we truly care for and would relax with on a weekday night or afternoon.

The "profile" joining is a nifty tool--if "meeting new people" is your goal. But I figure it's kinda silly to go through the trouble of creating "profiles," cause there's only like 12 of us, and we all know that, say, Bonnie is female and Abi has red hair. Hell, I am overstimulated everyday on this campus; I just wanted to create a serene environment for us all to retreat to cause we can't do it in my kitchen on Phillips Lane.

So that's my bit, and again, sorry E if you were joking and just threw that out there on a whim, in which case (INSERT LAUGH). Cause it would make a good joke, much in the same spirit that we both find the idea of Leonard Nimoy hilarious. Not even Nimoy as an actor, just the fact that life has put a Leonard Nimoy out there.

For those of you who are not Eliza or who may be asking: "Who the hell is Leonard Nimoy, and does Ashley have way too much spare time?" (No, I wish, but it IS Saturday...) Leonard Nimoy IS Spock, The ORIGINAL elvin-eared love muffin.
Official Leonard Nimoy Fan Club!!!

(No worries; I'm proud to say I'm NOT a member)

Um..

Is blogger like friendster for losers?

Because I am totally beating all of y'all at Friendster. TOTALLY.

Yeah, I think I did it!

Hi luvahs,
